Positioning the Alberta energy industry towards carbon neutral
Carbon Capture: Alberta Can Lead It
As a fossil fuel power, Alberta’s resources face increasing pressure to maintain our market share as both consumers and governments transition to a lower carbon energy mix. Carbon Capture Utilization and Sequestration (CCUS) is an important component of ALL credible ‘carbon neutral’ strategies and needs to be available in a cost effective manner to help carbon intensive industries meet their emissions reduction aspirations. Alberta has the geology, the reservoir understanding, the oilfield services, an experienced regulator, a supportive tenure system and most importantly the expertise to develop large scale CCUS capacity relatively quickly, in a safe and efficient manner.
On August 7, 2024 Bison was awarded the second Carbon Storage Agreemnet issued by the province of Alberta under their CCS Hub strategy. Full details of the project are included in the Projects section (Meadowbrook Project Update).
